Icons

Beginning with issue that I have been confronted by during my research I aim to reinvent some common icons and symbols commonly used on the Web to symbolise real life meanings. Icons used on the Web are a learnt behaviour which the younger generation have been brought up knowing (social media links, search icon, messaging logo, ‘you are here’ pointer) however for a non-user to understand these icons immediately I feel like they need altering slightly.

Here I have created a new search bar, I have used an icon of glasses to resemble the real life application of needing to put on glasses to find something (the original search icon could be misconstrued as a magnifying glass therefore meaning zoom in or make bigger).

search bar

The glasses indicate to search, it is also reiterated by the ‘Search here’ text which i slightly faded and will disappear once clicked on, the dotted line indicates to write here and the Go button indicates to complete the search (I do not want to assume that the audience knows to click enter on the keyboard). I feel as though the search bar is clear and simple yet understandable, I will be conducting tests on my target audience to gain reviews of the usability of my buttons.
